Gitta Alpar -daughter of a Hungarian cantor – was a major opera/operetta
and film star in pre-Nazi Germany and was of one of many stars who found
refuge in the States but did not manage to continue their career.
It’s actually the first film (and soundtrack) where one can see/hear her
sing live.
